You have one year to catch up your HBO shows on Amazon Prime, tick-tock
If you’ve been waiting out every buzzworthy HBO season to watch the shows on Amazon Prime, your time is at its end. Amazon Prime’s deal with HBO ends in 2018, and HBO “has no plans” to continue the relationship.
In 2014, Amazon Prime acquired exclusive streaming rights to certain HBO series, but nothing too recent or major (so Game of Thrones wasn’t on there anyway). That was before HBO Now, and before Prime subscriptions also offered a Showtime add-on.
So as of May 2018, HBO itself will be the only place to watch the cable providers’ popular original series, as well as HBO Go and HBO Now, if you haven’t already borrowed those logins from your friends.
There’s also the ever-looming threat that they might strike a deal with Netflix, but a lot can change in a year.
