The ‘Avatar’ sequels cast a key new character, so they must be real
Those long-delayed Avatar sequels have just taken a big step forward.
Fear the Walking Dead star Cliff Curtis has been cast as a new lead for Avatars 2 through 5. He joins Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana, who are set to reprise their roles from the first Avatar.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Curtis will play “Tonowari, leader of the Metkayina reef people clan.”
The Avatar sequels have been in development basically since the original Avatar opened in 2009. The original plan was to release two sequels in 2014 and 2015. Then it was going to be three sequels in 2016, 2017, and 2018.
As of last month, Avatar 2 is on track to arrive December 18, 2020, followed by Avatar 3 in 2021, Avatar 4 in 2024, and Avatar 5 in 2025.
But if there’s one thing we’ve learned from reporting on the Avatar sequels over the years, it’s that we’re all better off not holding our breath. Avatar 2 will get here when it gets here – and when it does, it’ll probably make all the money.
