Culture, Other, Subway Ping Pong

New York subway riders are annoyed at a ping pong-playing couple

New Yorkers are famously unflappable, but a viral video of two people playing a full game of ping pong on a 6 train has New York Twitter visibly annoyed at the players.

Author Mary Carr posted a video of the admittedly impressive subway athletes around 7:00 p.m. ET on June 29. Her video subsequently went viral, mostly because people were ticked off at the audacity of anyone who would clog up a whole subway aisle during rush hour.

Even Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez weighed in on the issue, hoping that at the very least the players weren’t ping ponging in her district.

At least one person seemed fine with adding a little whimsy to the subway. Just the one though, for the most part.

In a city where any given subway ride might turn into a mariachi concert, or a breakdancing “showtime,” or any number of impromptu performances, it seems like ping pong is where New Yorkers truly draw the line.
