Jimmy Fallon returns with an emotional tribute to his late mother
Jimmy Fallon’s back behind the desk of The Tonight Show after taking time off to be with his family after the passing of his mother, Gloria. Fallon got incredibly emotional when sharing a particular memory of his mother on Monday night: the fact that she used to squeeze his hands three times to convey she loved him.
Mike DiCenzo, writer/producer for The Tonight Show, shared a bit of behind the scenes of the moment in a Twitter thread, explaining that the staff had no idea he would be sharing that story with the audience. DiCenzo also revealed that Taylor Swift, who was a surprise musical guest for the night, graciously joined the show after they asked her to “on a whim.”
In the middle of her performance of “New Years Day,” Swift’s lyrics “you my hand 3 times in the back of the taxi” ramped up the already emotional night for Fallon and the entire Tonight Show family. You can read DiCenzo’s entire thread here, and watch Swift’s performance here.
