When Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was cast as Maui in the Disney film Moana, people were pretty impressed with his vocal skills. As lovable as Johnson has become over the years in his transition from pro wrestler to an actor, he continues to surprise from time to time.
Recently, someone on Twitter pointed out that Johnson’s actual grandfather, Fanene Leifi Pita Maivia, a.k.a. wrestler Peter Maivia, looked an awful lot like his character Maui on Moana.
Well, turns out that Johnson’s grandfather, High Chief Mavia of Samoa, was actually a partial inspiration for Maui, a demigod of the South Pacific.
