Star Trek has sustained a seemingly endless amount of discussion for nearly half a century now. And the newly announced spin-off After Dark will continue that tradition for the upcoming Star Trek: Discovery series.
Following in the footsteps of Nerdist host Chris Hardwick — who practically invented the aftershow with The Talking Dead, Talking Bad, and Talking Saul — After Trek will be hosted by fellow Nerdist Matt Mira.
(We’re assuming Chris Hardwick could not host because he was previously engaged in the aftershow for his aftershow’s aftershow.)
Jokes aside, Mirra is well-suited for the job, as not only Hardwick’s mentee but also as the host of his own discussion-oriented, pop culture deep-dives with podcasts like Star Trek: The Next Conversation and James Bonding.
The Star Trek: Discovery companion show will be a haven for trekkies who can’t get enough of the newest generation. In the mold of the other aftershows mentioned, it’ll bring together cast and crew members with a changing roster of celebrity fans to discuss the show.
Star Strek: Discovery is the latest return to the Starfleet, set ten years before Kirk, Spock and the Enterprise. Instead, it follows one officer’s journey to discovering what it takes to truly understand alien life.
Premiering via live stream on CBS All Access on Sept. 24 at 11:00 PM ET, After Trek‘s first guest will include Star Trek: Discovery stars Sonequa Martin-Green (First Officer Michael Burnham), James Frain (Ambassador Sarek) and executive producer and showrunner Aaron Harberts. The other episodes will air right after each new Star Trek: Discovery episode at 9:30 PM ET.
