Brazil recover from their worst cyberattack- IT Security Guru

Brazil’s public sector institution, the Superior Electoral Court (STJ, in the Portuguese acronym), recently suffered the most server cyberattack to ever target their government. Following this attack, the STJ is finally managing to get their systems back up and running, after over two weeks of disruptions.

On the Novermber 3 the ransomware attack targetted STJ’s systems, making them totally unavailable for 26 hours in order to allow the Federal Police to gather evidence. The investigation process is still ongoing and now involves an ever bigger investigation team including the federal data processing service Serpro, and the Army’s cyber defence unit. The Court also had to operate within limited functionality following the urgent case, until the systems were fully re-established on November 20.
