Summertime is ideal for taking time off from work to travel, but with so many options it may be difficult to choose just one destination. You could explore a city that’s filled with history, enjoy the natural beauty of the great outdoors, or keep the fun going late into the night with music and dancing.

According to a new survey of U.S. adults from the Marriott Rewards Premier Credit Card from Chase, 53 percent of Americans generally classify their time off from work as “basic” or “chill.” Some 15 percent of people would call it “eventful,” while 13 percent would characterize time off as “adventurous.”

To help inspire you to break from your basic use of your time off, here are five destinations across the country that bring unique flare – plus a fun way to finally make progress on your summer bucket list.

Summertime sizzle in Miami

Get ready to dig your toes into the sand in Miami – just don’t forget to pack your dancing shoes, too. Work on your tan with a waterside view during the day, then switch into party mode once the sun goes down. Miami is known for its vast network of clubs with live music, dancing, and some of the hottest DJs keeping the fun going until the wee hours of the morning. According to the Chase Marriott Rewards Premier Credit Card survey, 81 percent of those surveyed are interested in experiencing the local nightlife while on vacation. Don’t miss your chance to salsa dance at Little Havana and learn a thing or two from the locals.

Geek out in San Diego

Every summer, this sunny spot in southern California plays host to Comic-Con International, a four-day celebration of all things comic books and pop culture. Fans come together from all over the world to geek out over their shared love for the wizards, superheroes, zombies, and more that they obsessively watch and read about. Keep the cosplay going after dark and explore the city at the same time with a Haunted San Diego Ghost Tour, where a guide will lead you through San Diego’s spooky past.

Discover natural beauty in Phoenix

Get a taste for the great outdoors in Phoenix by exploring the Desert Botanical Garden, where you can peruse some 140 acres and more than 21,000 plants. With a focus on species uniquely adapted to desert conditions, the garden’s vast collection of cacti and agave is not to be missed. Continue your quest for natural wonders and check off an item on your bucket list by taking a drive up to Grand Canyon National Park, located about three hours away by car. At night, take advantage of the clear skies and bask beneath the stars. America the beautiful, indeed.

Brush up on history in Philadelphia

Spend some time in the City of Brotherly Love and learn about the birth of our nation by visiting local landmarks, museums, and more. Americans are highly likely to explore during a trip by visiting a historical site or museum (92 percent) or taking a guided tour (87 percent), according to the survey. In Philadelphia, you can take a peek at the iconic Liberty Bell, see where the Declaration of Independence was signed inside Independence Hall, and scarf down a Philly cheesesteak. While in town, hit up the Barnes Foundation and check out some art, then stay late to attend various concerts, talks, and after-hours events. Historic and hearty? Check and check.

Rock out in New York City

Maximize vacation time in the city that never sleeps with round-the-clock activities and late-night food options all over Manhattan (and maybe even the outer boroughs). There is no shortage of clubs and bars here, but it’s a pair of music festivals on Randall’s Island this summer that are sure to have everyone buzzing. Held over three days in June, the Governors Ball will feature the likes of Chance the Rapper, Lorde, and Wiz Khalifa, while the Panorama Music Festival in July will have everyone grooving thanks to Frank Ocean, Solange, and a Tribe Called Quest.

Spending a night in one of these cities just got so much easier with the Marriott Rewards Premier Credit Card from Chase. From now until June 30, 2017, cardmembers and Marriott Rewards members can enter for a chance to win one of 1,000 free night stays at participating Marriott Rewards hotels worldwide – even the highest tier properties – as part of the 1,000 Nights of Summer Sweepstakes.
